How to Use the Dr. Dabber Switch²
Most basic usage:
- Check the insert – The quartz insert comes pre-installed. If you need to reinstall it, remove the glass piece first, then take off the aluminum crown, place the insert inside the titanium chamber, and reattach the crown.
- Fill the glass – Remove the glass attachment, add water, then reinstall it with the vapor pathway lined up to the back of the unit.
- Power on – Flip the power switch on the back. The LEDs above the switch show battery life.
- Load your dab – Take off the magnetic carb cap and use the loading tool to place your concentrate into the insert. A rice-sized dab is recommended, but the Switch² can handle much larger loads if desired.
- Set your temp – Use the (+) and (–) buttons to choose your heat setting. The LEDs will change colors to indicate the selected temperature setting.
- Start your session – Replace the carb cap, press the main power button (with the Dr. Dabber logo), and wait. The LEDs will glow red while heating and turn green when ready. Inhale slowly and steadily for the smoothest results.

Our Experience
Right out of the box, the Switch² doesn’t look like your typical vaporizer. Its sleek design feels more like a Nespresso machine or SodaStream than a dab rig, giving it a modern look that wouldn’t feel out of place on a kitchen counter.
The redesign is a noticeable departure from the first-generation Switch, which we also enjoyed using. One of the biggest improvements is the significantly larger insert capacity (about 300% bigger) for huge dabs. I tend to take small dabs more frequently, but the big dabbers will enjoy this. In either case, the Switch 2 can handle any dab size perfectly.
I think the reduced size of the compact glass attachment and carb cap are nice improvements. On the original Switch, both pieces felt unnecessarily oversized, and the insert was tucked into the device in a way that made removing it for cleaning more difficult. With the Switch², the insert is much easier to access, making day-to-day use and maintenance far more convenient.
Another big change is that this device is now dedicated solely to concentrates. The first version could switch between flower and concentrates, but it required multiple power modes and even different settings depending on the insert material. This was an overly confusing system that often felt like too much work and required me to referring the manual more often than I’d like whenever I’d forget the appropriate settings. While it’s disappointing that the Switch² doesn’t support flower, the streamlined concentrate-only design makes operation much simpler and more user-friendly.
Performance-wise, the Switch² heats up impressively fast. The included heated dab tool is a nice touch, letting you scoop concentrate material and either drip it directly into the insert or melt it off the tool onto the chamber walls. Pairing the device with the app adds another layer of customization, letting you track sessions, monitor real-time temperature changes, and experiment with heating profiles. I especially enjoyed using the “cold start” approach which involves loading the dab first, then inhaling as the temperature ramps up. This method delivered cooler vapor and maximum flavor before things got too hot.
Battery life is another strong point. I was able to easily get over 20 solid sessions before needing a recharge, which is more than enough for most users. And if you do run out of power, the Switch² supports pass-through charging, so you can safely keep using it while it’s plugged in. Even without the app, the device is very straightforward to operate: a simple on/off switch, LED battery indicator, and color-coded temperature controls make it intuitive to use, while the ambient lighting adds a stylish touch reminiscent of the Dr. Dabber Evo.
Overall, the Switch² feels like a more refined, easier-to-use version of the original, with advanced upgrades that make it better suited for concentrate enthusiasts of all experience levels.
Final Thoughts
The Dr. Dabber Switch² feels like a true evolution of the original Switch, building on its strengths while addressing some of its limitations. The larger insert chamber, dynamic heating modes, and app-enabled customization make it one of the most versatile and forward-thinking eRigs on the market. While the oversized chamber makes it especially appealing for users who enjoy larger dabs, it’s also perfectly capable of handling smaller loads, giving it flexibility for a wide range of dab sizes.
That said, the Switch² is designed strictly for concentrates. Unlike some other devices, it isn’t marketed as a dual-use vaporizer for flower, though in theory it seems like it could work with dry herb, I haven’t tested it personally and can’t confirm the results.
Casual users who prefer simple, no-frills dabbing might also find the app features unnecessary. But for enthusiasts who value precision, consistency, and the ability to fine-tune every aspect of their session, the Switch² delivers a premium experience that justifies its price tag.
