How We Rate and Review Vaporizers
In order to provide informative vape reviews that are both authentic and unbiased, we’ve developed a set of standard rating factors that we consider for every single review.
While a portion of each review is based on subjective experience, things like taste, flavor and high effect, we’ve establish a set of objective criteria to rate products. We aim for consistency in our reviews to best inform our readers.
Unlike other vape review sites, here at Cannabis Vape Reviews, we review both vaporizers and the cannabis products that pair with them. So, depending on the type of product being reviewed, the rating criteria can vary.
For example, you can judge how well a dry herb vaporizer or e-rig transfers flavor versus smoking the same flower or how fast one battery-powered vaporizer heats up versus another.
However, when reviewing a cannabis product like a wax concentrate or cannabis oil vape cartridge, we’d instead focus on factors like the high effect and potency. So different product types will inherently have different ratings factors to measure.
Here’s the criteria we use for rating and reviewing vape products:
Vaporizer Rating Factors
What qualifies as a vaporizer?
The term “vaporizer” is used to describe any device that’s used for the purpose of vaporizing cannabis.
Vaporizers typically have a power source, most commonly a rechargeable battery, and are used to vaporize the active ingredients in cannabis like THC. The active ingredients are inhaled through the mouth and into the lungs to produce desired effects.
We typically rate vaporizers based on the following criteria:
Design | Aesthetic appeal Quality of materials Functionality (useful features, practicality, etc.) Portability (travels easy, fits in pocket, etc.) Versatility (vapes different types of cannabis, custom heat settings, etc.) Ease of Use (intuitive to use, steep learning curve, etc.) Maintenance (easy to clean, parts disassemble, cleaning frequency, etc.) |
Battery | Battery life Charging speed Charging options |
Vapor Quality | Airflow Flavor transfer Vapor Density Vapor size |
Price | Cost versus similar vapes |
Why do vape reviews have different rating factors?
Not are vapes are created equal. Vaporizers like the DynaVap M and the Stache RIO are both vaporizers that are not battery-powered and they both require external heat sources like being lit with a butane torch. In this case, rating the battery life is not applicable. However, factors like design, vapor quality, and price will still apply.
Cannabis Rating Factors
How is a cannabis product different from a vaporizer?
The term “cannabis product” for our use refers to any product that contains cannabis, as opposed to a vaporizer device or piece of hardware, which may not contain cannabis.
Cannabis products typically include wax for dabbing, vape cartridges and cannabis oils, syringe applicators, live resin, and other cannabis concentrates.
We also consider some products to be hybrid cannabis products because they can include BOTH cannabis as well as the vape hardware sold as one product. These product reviews may have a mix of rating criteria.
Hybrid cannabis products, by our definition, would be products such as disposable vape pens for example. Disposable vape pens like the STIIIZY vape pen is an all-in-one vaporizer device that comes pre-filled with cannabis oil. In this case, we may be reviewing both the vape’s hardware as well as the quality of the cannabis oil it contains.
We typically rate cannabis products on the following criteria:
Hardware | Design Quality of materials Reliability Prone to leaks Compatibility (510-threaded, specific pod system, etc.) |
Taste & Flavor | Aroma Flavor |
Vapor Quality | Flavor transfer Airflow Vapor Density Vapor size |
High Effect | Potency Mental clarity Desired effect |
Price | Cost versus similar cannabis products |
Obviously, we can’t rate a wax concentrate based factors like hardware, so some factors aren’t applicable.
Accessory Product Rating Factors
What qualifies as an accessory product for smoking and vaping?
We consider any vaping or smoking “accessory product” to include equipment and tools that enhance your smoking experience. This includes products like grinders, lighters, air coolers, vape-to-bong adapters, protective cases, etc.
Accessory products for cannabis are in a whole class of their own along with their own set of criteria. Accessory products may not play a direct role in directly affecting factors like transfer of flavor or vape quality. Since they are not cannabis containing products, obviously they do not have a high effect to be rated either.
We generally rate accessory products on the following criteria:
Hardware | Design Quality of materials Reliability |
Design | Aesthetic appeal Functionality (useful features, practicality, etc.) Portability (travels easy, fits in pocket, etc.) Ease of Use (intuitive to use, steep learning curve, etc.) Maintenance (easy to clean, parts disassemble, cleaning frequency, etc.) |
Price | Cost versus similar cannabis products |
